I have a maybe newbie question or a silly one :) ...but i was just messin around with my marshall jmp (it's 100w but i run it on 50w and it's from 1975) i love the sound!but was just wondering how does it compare to say dave friedmans marsha?i mean i'm not gonna ever be able to try marsha out but i do love the clips i heard :) i know marsha is pretty much hot rodded marshall but was just wondering how does it compare to the "usual" marshall jmps from the 70s?

so here is the clip i found on the youtube and it is really close sounding to my marshall (maybe this one has a little more gain...but just little)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiWLnYU6JBQ&feature=related

so how does that compare to marsha?thanks

Same basic tone. But the Marsha will have a lot more gain and more low end.
Plus the ability to have several shades of gain structures.
Nothing wrong with the tone you are getting, that's the difference I hear.
Nice rig in the video.

well would putting a tubescreamer in front of an dirty amp (like that in the clip) give me more gain?

of course it won't be the same as marsha, but i'm about to get a tubescreamer and was wondering if it will make my marshall more "high gain",or more marsha-esque? :)

in a nutshell what i want to achive is to get more gain out of my marshall and a little more bottom end when i need it...for example if i'm playing black crowes it's great, but when i play something like alice in chains or stone temple pilots i need more gain and more bottom end!and i was wondering would putting a tubescreamer in front of already overdriven amp like that in the clip get me in that ballpark?or would it just buzz and destroy good tone :dunno

Yes, a tubescreamer will give more gain, but I'd recommend for a Marshall you get a Timmy instead (or another "clean boost" pedal). The tubescreamer types will further accentuate the already present mids and thicken it up even further, where the Timmy will give more bite on the top end as it gives more gain. For the bass, apart from having someone mod the amp I would look at your speaker setup. Make sure your cab is sealed, all joints/screws are tight, and consider a speaker change to something with some low end thump. If you're running a 4 X 12 cab, you might change 2 of them out for Swamp Thangs.
