So, this thing has EL34's in it now, I guess they came w/ 6550's? I needs to break out the Marshall book. What's the difference in sound between them and 6550's?

I've had one for about 10 years or so...

Great club amp. Exactly the same as the 800s that go for WAY more.

    I paid $250 for mine.

6550s are a little louder and will give more headroom than 34s. Depending on the make of tubes, they can also give a fatter bottom than your average 34.

Ah, you've got some nice Marshalls yourself there Mark. What's in your 2204- 6550s or EL34s? The only Marshall I have takes 6V6s.

    Hey Sparky,

It was a 6550 amp but I converted it to 34s. I've got a pair of XF2 Mullards in it now along with a Mullard in V1, a Telefunken in V2 and an RCA 5751 blackplate in V3. it's a vintage rawk machine. :dude

I have had a 4010 for 24 yrs, bought it new in 1982 and still have it.

Mine came with 6550's and I swapped them to EL34's with much better results. Also put a Vintage 30 speaker in.

Nice little amp for early metal tones and even some classic rock with the pre-amp vol rolled back a bit.

    The Celeston G12-75, I believe.

Huge difference when I changed to the V30. The V30 is more forward sounding and has more life in the mids. The 75 seemed like a poor match for this amp after listening to the difference.

I'm going to try the CL 80 first of course. If it doesn't do it for me I'll pick up a V30.
