Didn't want to hijack the other marshall thread going on. I've been exploring these: JMD-1, 3203 artist, and Lead 100 Mosfet. If you have any pro/cons about these feel free to reply! Any others I'm missing in the price range of $200-$500 add to the list. Thanks

It would help if you tell us what type of music you are playing of what type of sound you are looking for. The JMD1, IMHO, is one of the best underrated amp that Marshall ever did. It has been snob by tube purist but they don't know what they are missing. It might not be the best option for you though. So please tell us more.

Note : it will be very hard on your budget to find anything Marshall, even on the used market.

Ooops. budget should be $200-500. Playing anything from classic rock/southern rock/blues rock. I saw your post about the JMD1 on the other thread and I've heard some good things about it. I'm looking for that BadCo, Thin Lizzy grind. I'm with you on the tube purist thing, I don't need someone who's never heard or played these to tell me you can't get a marshall tone w/o tubes! I have found a few of these heads my price range. Thanks FBT

If you don't need much stage volume, and can mic your amp for gigs, the Class 5 head will get those tones. It's actually pretty loud on stage (can compete with drums) through efficient speakers.

DSL100 are great Marshall Head. I had one for many months prior to my JMD1. But now, I not only do I have the great JCM2000 sound but I got the JCM800 2203, JMP-1, Haze, JVM and Gov'nor pedal. all in one dynamic amp with a master volume.

I'd get a JCM2000 DSL100 or 50 head. They are the best Marshall head you can find used under $1000 It does a great JCM800/plexi crunch on the classic channel.

For a bit more you could get a great Marshall.. Keep an eye out for a used JCM 2000 DSL 100 (2 Channel) or TSL 100 (3 Channel) Head..

Sorry, I missed the earlier posts, but that should tell you that they are great amps...!

I disagree with you, not on the JCM2000 being a great amp but being a greater amp than the JMD1. I had both connected to the same cab and not only did I get the exact same sound from both amps but the JMD1 allowed me to have sound from other Marshall amp.

The 4203, Artist combo, is a really cool low volume amp. If you need power, the JCM2k is a good bet.

If you hunt around, you may get a JCM800 4010 combo for that...

I check CL just about every day and the cheapest I've ever seen a 4010 combo is $700 and it looked like it was dragged behind a truck. Under $500?? I would definitely not hold your breath.
