Hi! Any thoughts on the KT-66's that come stock with the Marshall Vintage Modern amps. Has anybody out there replaced them(KT-66's) with something else? I heard one recently with 6L6's. I thought it sounded Good. I was just wondering what anyone had to say about this.

Thanks, frankguitar

The guy I bought mine from (last week) replaced them with GT's about a month ago. I don't have a point of reference to compare, but I love the way mine sounds enough that I doubt I'll mess with them.....this amp is definitely a keeper.

You might check out the Marshall Roadhouse forums.....LOTS of knowledgeable folks over there that I'm sure will be able to help you out.

I've had a VM 2466 for 3.5 years, love it.

The stock KT-66s are Shuguang and are fantastic. I've tried Gold Lions and liked them too, but after switching back to the Shuguangs, I like those a lot more.

The Gold Lions don't break up as much and have a clearer top end, more definition overall, but the Shuguangs have this really nasty grind in the mids that I just love.

Designer of the amp once said that it can't
be done without modding the inside or you'll
damage it .
