I was thinking (as a Maryland-er) that a lot of pretty good guitar players have come out of MD. Add any you can think of.

    Danny Gatton
    Frank Zappa
    Charlie Byrd
    Bill Frisell
    Nils Lofgren
Joan Jett (not known for her playing, but she qualifies)
Oh, and a certain luthier over on the eastern shore...
Roy Buchanon maybe? Or was he from VA?

Frank Zappa and Ric Ocasek were both from Baltimore

I'm from Baltimore but not a great guitar player. I don't think Babe Ruth was a great guitar player either.

And that's not even mentioning the great guitars that come out of Maryland!

Roy was in Fairfax, VA... Allegedly hung himself in his jail cell, but there were reports his body was brused...

It is in Wikipedia... Also, there is a Fairfax underground blog with a bunch of posts about his death and from what I read no one believed it was a suicide...

Tthe Capitol Rock books cover this pretty well, but really you are describing the greater Washington DC area. Gatton was from the city originally. You can add names like Link Wray, Mike Stern(Dubonettes), Jorma and Jack Casady, Mike Auldridge , John Fahey, Libba Cotton, Tommy Keene etc....oh yeah, the Asheton brothers

Yes ... but why do most of the Balmer/DC area guitarists seem to play teles?

And +1 for Charlie Byrd .... one of the great jazz dudes

I grew up in Memphis .... and then lived in Maryland for 13 years ... maybe there's still hope for me :bonk

I tend to think about those greats as MD, DC, NoVa, and not just MD. Saw Charlie Byrd and Roy B. Didn't Crack The Sky have a Mid Atlantic connection? Dug their stuff!
