I had a play of the josh homme signature bb1200 which sounded and felt awesome, just wondering if anybody had a maton bb1200 and what they thought of it.

That's awesome Josh has his own sig model. He certainly deserves it. The only time I've ever held a Maton, actually that was also the only time I've seen one in person, was back stage when my band at the time opened for QOTSA in 2005. Not sure where you're located but in the US they're extremely rare.

Well its not his "signature" model but he helped in the design progress. The pickups in the are named after his initials. I also wouldnt say they are "extremely" rare. You just have to find a US dealer and call to see if they have one in stock. Most places will have atleast one.

They are really really nice guitars (nicer than Gibson Lps IMHO) but are way over priced (much like Gibson Lps).
Also, if you buy them in the states they will loose half their value just cause there is no big market for them here.

Ive got a now discontinued Maton Ms526 model and i love it but if i was gonna pay 4k for a new bb1200 guitar id rather have one custom built for me.

Well, there's one dealer, it's 400+ miles away. I can't just run up there on my lunch break and check one out. The next closest is over 1600 miles. Only one dealer west of the Mississippi. I'd definitely call that "extreme". :)

the josh homme one is a model = bb1200jh http://www.maton.com.au/electrics/bb1200jh.html

I've had a bunch of matons over the years. mostly acoustics when i lived in sydney. I currently have a mastersound ms-500.

My mastersound is an early one - i have had to pull it apart a number of times to fix small soldering issues. i cracked the scratchplate in the process. i kinda like it tho - it feels small for a 25.5in scale guitar. the pickups are different & the switch thingy is kinda cool. i put a bigsby on it & it suits it really well. http://www.maton.com.au/electrics/ms500.html the bb1200 guitar is a lot more normal than the mastersound.

i really like the acoustics. The only weirdness is the truss rod system. the pickups are really great. if you have a guy like tommy emmanuel making his thing from them, they must be ok...

    He is my Shasta Beast.

I was at an EODM gig hear in Perth and he had a BB1200 but he had lightning bolts in replace of the f holes

Also. The signature model is not 100% like the one J-Ho plays. The toggle switch should be on the bottom not the top like on the

When I was at the EoDM gig, here in Prague, he had his white Yamaha AES1500 (which he broke into pieces over his knee at the end of the show) and the black BB1200 (I got to check it up close after the show while I was chatting with his tech).
Btw I just came back from Aussie last month, cant wait to get back!

    That’s awesome!

I didn’t get a chance to meet him in Perth, but he did invite every one to go drinking with him down the road... but I did manage to meet Josh last year. It was at v fest they played just before the smashing pumpkins.. Was reli hyped to see the SP but there was fireworks at the casino over the river so half way thru there set so they stoped playing... any way i was a bit pissed off that they just stoped so i left as i was leaving i saw Alan gettin in to a car. Waited a bit then Josh came out. Me and my GF went up to say hi. My GF went to shake his hand but then he shook his head and said "Nah baby, Come hear" gave her a hug. (looked funny cos my GF like 5 ft and josh is a giant)... so then I thought I would be funny and go to give him a hug to... he laughed and made some gay gestures.. had a chat to him. .. nicest guy ever..
