    Anyone own both?

I'm basically looking at moving some things around to make my board smaller. I have 3 delays on my board right now. There is one sound I'm afraid the Timeline can't cop.

These are the settings I use with my Maxon.

    Time - 10:00
    Repeat - 11:00
    Level - 1:00

If anyone owns both, I was curious if you could cop the sound the ad999 makes with these settings in the Timeline?

The basic Maxon sound is found in this video around the 1:45

That would be a LOT of knob twiddling and parameter-diving
    to find out. :knitting

Maybe someone other than I has more patience for that sort
    of thing. :)

What, your the man for the job. Look at this like a challenge. It will make you a better guitarist and overall human being. Besides, you deserve to be the one to figure this out. I believe in you. ;)

So I worked with my Timeline to get as close as possible to my AD999. These are the settings I ended up with. The biggest difference when you A/B them is not in the repeats, it's in the dry signal. The Timeline sounds closer to your actual unaffected signal, and the AD999 adds girth and warmth to it. Nonetheless:

    Settings on Timeline:

    Mode: dBucket
    Range: Double
    Tap: Quarter
Boost: 2.0 (this is important to match the output of the AD999)
    Knobs as shown

Very awesome indeed. Is there a way to hear the two side by side just strumming and stopping some chords? I don't care if it's just recorded with your phone. I can pm you my email address or phone number if that would work better.

The Timeline is great, and it does 1,000,000 things. But, perfectly copping other tones was never something it did well for me. :idk:

If you love the Maxon, the Timeline will not do the same thing. ever.

You'll never get the curve of the decays to match another pedal perfectly.

I know Zane uses other Strymon pedals as well (Flint in particular), so his use of the AD999 is probably purposeful. It may just be familiarity, but that's also worth something :)

I owned both at the same time and consequently got rid of the timeline. Didn't need all the bells and whistles and just love the AD999, like others have said the TL can sound similar but can't match the warmth of the repeats. The only thing I kinda miss is a bit of mod so I'm going to grab a Analogman ardx20 with an amazeo.

Going to check out your settings tonight, sooze. :aok

I will not, however, be parting with my AD999... no matter
how close the Timeline gets to it.

The AD999 is one of the all-time greats, IMO.

    So what do you think?
A buddy of mine who has the Timeline tried the settings and then tweaked the time a little. I can't say the clip he sent me sounded the same, but it did sound good.

keep the AD-999! hte strymon will get close with a lot of tweaking, but the AD-999 is something special.

I took them both for a spin tonight... side by side. I agree with the
others who said there is a "warmth" to the repeats of the 999 that
you cannot achieve with the TL. It can get close, and some might
not notice that big of a difference. In a mix it would be hard to tell.

All alone, the degradation of the repeats on the 999 are not replicable on
the Timeline. I can roll the filter down for more of a lo-pass filter tone on
the repeats of the Timeline and it gets close but not the warmth of the 999.
Also, and I know this has been discussed before ad nauseaum on some
Strymon-hating thread... but there is to me a total loss of warmth in my
guitar signal. Just engaging the Timeline makes me whole tone somehow brighter.
Not necessarily in a bad way... just noticable to my ears. It is something I don't
notice with the Maxon. So there is that, too. :dunno

I made a live capture clip..... if you want I can post it here.
