    I actually own a Maxon CP-101 compressor.
lately, I read some nice reviews about the FX engineering RAF Mirage saying tat when playing it , it's like feeling it without hearing it working , which sounds like the ultimate comp search could be over with that one...

Has anyone around tried both compressors ?

Would it be that worth replacing the Maxon with that RAF Mirage ?

Good question. As a Tone Press owner, I've had my eyes peeled for opto comp info for quite some time.

    Dunno,

I have had the Carl Martin comp and tested the FSK and T-rex compressors.
The Mirage is the best! It's on my pedalboard right now.
It really sounds superb. It only changes your dynamics, NOT your tone.

The Maxon CP101 was the compressor I settled on after a long (read expensive) compressor hunt.

The Mirage knocked it off my board. I'm finally happy with a compressor, instead of feeling like I was compromising. And simple to use. It's my ultimate compressor so far. I can't see anything touching it.

    There, I've gushed.

    Hey Jamison:
Had a Diamond. It was good, but I couldn't get any increased sustain out of it. The Diamond felt/sounded purely like a limiter. The Tone Press will not only limit overall dynamics, but it will increase sustain/bloom as well. But it'll pump/breathe and for my rig it affects my tone - that's why I continue to look around.

I'm not an expert on comp pedals, but I was really impressed by the Mirage compressor.

had a Mirage and I guess mine might have been defective as it just made everything distorted and fat...not at all what I was expecting...have demoed a Maxon in fact both Maxons and really nothing to get excited about...

I have a BJF PGC (great with strats pretty good with a tele don't like it with hums or acoustic) and so far its my fave followed closely by an Okko Coca Comp. and the Telenordia comp...

shame you didn't send it back to FX Enginneering to check it up,
if so, maybe it might still be on your pedalboard...

actually I'm really happy with the PGC and doubt that the Mirage would have replaced it...

The Mirage has a trim pot for gain or something, so if you have hot pups, you can turn it down and lose the distortion. I had the same issue with mine and I turned it down a bit and it was perfect.

I also understand the PGC is a ruling comp...would love to try it, I just don't want to spend $400 on a compressor!

mine was one of the first versions and as I understand there were a couple of different circuits floating around...one of which at the customers request sounded like mine did...didn't see a trim pot in my Mirage when I opened it up or I would have for sure tried to adjust it...luckily I didn't have to pay anywhere near $400 for my PGC or I wouldn't have one either...

Seegs, I added the gain trimmer to the Mirage based on your feedback. I appreciate your honest input! :AOK

Montez .. I just ordered one from you ...
Hope it's the most current version ... can't wait ...!!

The words that sold me on it,
were the ones which said you can "feel" the compressor more then hear that it is on ....
IMO the feel is the the best part of a compressor ...

So far I've owned most all of the compressors mentioned here ...
Agree with what Billyk said about the Diamond being more of a limiter then a compressor ...

The PGC is an incredible tone enhancer.. one of the best enhancers out there ..
Really feel it should be marketed as such because it doesn't compress
enough for me to use it in the compressor spot on my board ....

I've had a Tone Press on back order for quite a while now ...
so that's about the only one, other then Mirage I haven't tried yet
But so far nothing has been able to replace the Maxon CP101 ...
I'm hoping the Mirage will do so ...

Montez...could you give us feedback on the Tumbleweed in terms of the effect on the tone presentation compared to the Mirage? Thanks, BuddyPo'
