I'm going to be up there this weekend. Are the crabs in season yet?

I saw the local crab stand being set up for the season last week, but I haven't driven by since so I can't say for certain they're selling crabs. Memorial Day is the traditional start of crab season (at least it is this far from the bay).

Go with crabcakes. Whole crabs are just way too expensive these days.

That seems high, but the price is higher on holiday weekends. $300 a bushel for large males is what I remember from the end of last summer.

edit: I found the picture of the price board.

Not out of the ballpark. $50 for a dozen reg/med males has been very common the past few years.

And they expect this to be a very bad year for crabs in the Chesepeake after two hard winters.

If you get a chance go to G&M in Linchicum and get their crab cakes. Off the charts good!
