I'm going to be up there this weekend. Are the crabs in season yet?
They are, Baltimore is to go to according to what i hear from my crab-eating/loving friends.
I saw the local crab stand being set up for the season last week, but I haven't driven by since so I can't say for certain they're selling crabs. Memorial Day is the traditional start of crab season (at least it is this far from the bay).
Yep saw a couple stands open last weekend. Long lines.
WTF??? I just called a random crab place and large were $85 a dozen. Is that the going rate these days?
Go with crabcakes. Whole crabs are just way too expensive these days.
That seems high, but the price is higher on holiday weekends. $300 a bushel for large males is what I remember from the end of last summer.
edit: I found the picture of the price board.
Not out of the ballpark. $50 for a dozen reg/med males has been very common the past few years.
And they expect this to be a very bad year for crabs in the Chesepeake after two hard winters.
If you get a chance go to G&M in Linchicum and get their crab cakes. Off the charts good!
