Thought I'd post this up so folks can hear this setup if they wish.

It's the clip on top called, "Clip Peterson Melancon Germino Feb 2006" on my Soundclick page: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=339733

    Gear:

    - Me
    - 04 Melancon Custom Artist "S" (S/S/H WCR SR/SR/Goodwood pickups)
    - 05 Germino Club 40
    - 05 Tone Tools Fat Cat 212 (Guytron Big Tone 55 speakers)
    - Shure SM-57; FMR Real Nice Preamp. Lynx Audio A/D conversion.
    - No compression or EQ; 4% wet reverb added in Cubase SX (Dreamverb from Universal Audio; "Small Church" preset)

You'll hear different pedals and pickups used all over it here and there. The OD's used were the Xotic BB Preamp and Keeley Mod Rat. The wah is my 1997 Fulltone Clyde (serial #44). Compressor is Analogman Mini-Bi Comp (set to the OS side). Chorus is Fulltone Choralflange. Phaser is the Red Witch Deluxe Moon Phaser.

    Hi Scott,

    Absolutely top notch!
The clean sound has a sort of liquid feel to it that I really like.
You have managed to change my preconception about EL-34 clean. Thanks!

What kind of volume did you record this at?

    Cheers,

    Mats N

Full blown, no attenuation. Volume I at 11 o'clock and Volume II at 8 o'clock. Channels jumpered.

Very nice range of tones- that's an excellent wah pedal.

    Hi Scott,

If I understood you correctly you get clean sounds by turning down the guitar volume control?

    Cheers,

Thanks for the kind words guys.

The clip is just something I did to mess around while setting levels to cut a part for a friend's song. I have been promising to post something the past few months, but never had the time. So I just uploaded this little bit of noodling. Nothing fancy, but you get the drift of how I run the amp and the rig and the sounds I like... at least filtered through a SM57 anyway. It sounds MUCH better in the room, but you knew that. :D

The cleans you hear are the amp with the Melancon's neck and neck/middle WCR single coil pickups. Volume is shaded off a touch or full up. I run the amp fairly clean.

The OD sounds are mainly the BB Preamp with the gain at about 11 o'clock; the nastier gain sound is the Keeley Rat. The Rat sounds a bit thin sometimes out of a band context; in the mix it always sounds absolutely killer.

Nice clip and playing Scott. Thanks for the details- gives me a good idea of what those pedals sound like. I sold a Germino Massonette to try a Flexi and you turned your Flexi for (in time) a Germino. SO many great options these days.....

Just to clarify, were you using the BB when you first kick in the distortion? I'm mainly talking about the STP riff. Regardless, that particular tone sounds awesome! I also loved the clean tones.

    Thanks for the kind words!

The lead lick is the Keeley Rat; the verse parts were done with the BB Preamp.

You know what comes to mind? At around 1:20 on that clip with the swirling clean tone it reminds me of RUSH 2112 soliloquy and then at 1:30 as it goes into the Grand Finale. Very cool............[IMG]
