If you're referring to the trimpots on the board it's best to leave them alone. They're there for calibration and messing with them can really screw it up if you don't have the right equipment and know how.
I know what you mean: my first 1100 was calibrated very bad. The repeats were distorted and very quiet. I sent it in and they recalibrated it for me. Now, it works fine.
