Can the TBIAC get a bold clean tone, or is it just dirt? Thanks, John.
I thought it had a fair amount of headroom right?
It's pretty light on the OD. Yes it can do the bold clean tone.
This. Great pedal.
it's got the whole AC30 topboost circuit in it, just shrunk down with fets where tubes would be. it can do an AC clean tone just as well as it does AC overdrive.
I had a thread that asked the same question about a month ago, so I went out and got an older TBIAC. I use it to put a voxy sound to my Fender amp. It works good enough to give you that U2/REM/STP type tone to some songs. I crank the volume knob and turn the gain down... so a cleanish voxy boost with the tiniest bit of hair, I use it to get the "streets" sound with my Flashback delay. I liked it enough to sell my AC15 and stick with one amp instead of setting up two amps for a bar/club gig.
I agree. I've been tempted to get an AC-15 but with the TBIAC into my TR (before that, my Fuchs mod) I've gotten the classic AC-30 tones and haven't really found the need to waste my money and back buying and carrying an extra amp.
Now that the AC-4HW1 is out however.. I might be tempted to switch
/\ /\ Agreed. The TBIAC gives great VOX chime...clean or dirty. Plus it's easier to make a Fender sound like a Vox than the other way around...
I had one of the older 5 knob versions years ago and I just couldn't get anything that sounded like a Vox through any of my Fender BF amps. I really wanted to believe and I tried it in a number situations and I eventually just sold it. The one I had was also kind of noisy. Perhaps I just got a lemon?
Did the 5 knob have a mid tone control? Turning up the mids helps a lot I find. It all depends on how your amp is set up. The 8 knob is very useful imo because I can compensate for my amp's settings with the gazillion controls on the 8 knob
sounds like it. the TBIAC is unmistakably VOX through a clean amp. it has all the "krang", compression, and swirl of the real thing.
some guy on here had a hayseed AC30 and some matchless and sold them both when he got the TBIAC. he said he could get too much money for them, and the TBIAC was so close it was almost indistinguishable. i am NOT a pedal guy, and i think 99% of OD's, especially, sound basically the same. the TB is in a small league of OD's that really do something special.
I like this Music Toyz video:
here's a vid of a tele into the TBIAC into a brown princeton:
