Caught DT last night at Radio City, and I have to say the mix was killer! I know the space is legendary, but you could hear everything pretty clear. I noticed it didn't look like John's 4x12's were mic'd, was he running the cab clone direct for this tour? I know that feature gets harped on quite a bit, but damn he sounded great last night! Was just in my mind, so I thought I'd post to see what I could find out.

I was wondering the same thing. Saw them in Philly the other night. His stage volume wasn't that loud either. I wonder if they had an iso cab somewhere the were using for the house.

    Rig rundown

Short answer IIRC he's not using the cab clone he's got a mic'ed 1x12s offstage and for monitors.

That's got to be the simplest his rig has ever been.

So the amps on stage are just for decoration. Interesting...

The amps in front have been a decoration for quite a long time know, and they're just empty cases with the lights. His real amps are in the back though, and he's micing two recto 1x12" in the back.

    It's cold outside.
It amazes me that he uses a Keeley Red Dirt on top of the Boogie.

Yeah I noticed the same thing. I thought the added gain and "Shred" setting on the IIC+ was supposed to eliminate the need for pushing the front end? Perhaps he likes it for his clean channel?

I run a gristle king into the front of my roadster. It gives me way more options for each channel than I would get if I had to push the preamp gain that hard on its own.

Yeah I have an EP Booster and a Maxon OD808 that I will use in front of my Mark V with my SSS Strats. The EP is on almost all the time unless I am using the 808.
