I have a new Mesa Lonestar - it's a killer sounding amp, but it seems to have an issue. When I shut the power off it has a second or two pause then makes a loud "thump" or "bang" sound.

I called Mesa, but the tech just said that it's normal. That's nonsense. What do you all think? Can tubes cause this? or something else?

It is normal. It has happened to me on just about every tube amp I have ever owned. I just live with it.

I think it is the caps partially discharging.

Sometimes keeping the amp on standby for a couple of minutes before hitting the power switch off helps.

Just play a power chord while you flip the switch. Sounds like a joke, but it actually works and it bleeds the caps down quicker (or so I've been told).

Why do you doubt the tech from the company
    who made the amp?

Mesa is pretty good about things.

Old tube stereos have a second and third wave of
sound when you shut them down.

Old TVs had their pictures reduced slowly to a small
button that seemingly lasted forever before it dissappeard
    before final shutdown.

    Ah, those were the days!

Now you just toss them in the chit can and by another!

The "thump" says: "I'm a valve amp, don't eff with me..."
    :D

New power tubes did the trick. No bang, sounds great.
