    Hi all! MGL ampWorks is part of Mark's Guitar Loft. The amps are built to order in-house here in southern New Hampshire. The aluminum chassis, black powder coating and screening are also sourced locally. Baltic Birch head and speakers cabs are made by Jeff Swanson in Beverly Ma. The amps are all tube, single channel master volume modded Marshall based circuits. I'll list the other models we offer in separate posts.

    First up is the newly released MGL50 high gain head, a tribute to the great modded Marshall tones of the ‘80’s.This is a single channel master volume amp w/ three 12AX7 preamp tubes and a pair of EL34 power tubes. All tube preamp circuit, no extra gain from solid state or diode clipping circuits. The focus of this amp was: lots of useable gain without any need to add pedals. Singing lead tones with plenty of sustain. Also great clarity and note definition when playing chords so every note is heard, chunky low mids and a presence in the upper mids that makes for effortless "Superlead" like harmonics that jump off the strings. Much attention was focused on the importance of sounding great at low home volumes, and all of this without compromising the tone and feel. This is beast of an amp with plenty of attitude and a blast to play! This project has been in the works for the last year and has been a lot of fun for us! As with all of our amps, much time and effort have been spent in the choice of components. My good friend Guy Harvey does the complete builds including making the turret boards. We’re also very happy to have partnered with a killer Los Angeles based guitar player, Jimmy Burkard, who is doing all of the demo videos!

    Thank you Mark, it means a lot coming from you! I'm super happy with the amp and Jimmy was the perfect player to work with on the demos. So far the first 5 amp buyers are very happy.

    Next up is the NEW 2nd generation MGL50 master volume amp. This is an updated version of the original MGL50 we released 3 years ago. The foundation is still based on the Marshall JMP - JCM800 2204 circuit but with some new mods in a few areas that gives the amp more gain and a tighter, more focused voice that will cover higher gain playing without having to boost the front end with a pedal. But you can also back off the preamp and still get all of the classic 2204 tones.

    BUILD SPECS:
    * .090" aluminum chassis w/ welded and ground corners
    * Custom wound power transformer and choke from Dagnall in the UK
    * Handwound Merren Audio output transformer
    * Customer choice on the first 2 tone caps in the circuit, NOS mustard caps for the classic “Marshall” voice, or SoZo for a little more modern tone and a bit more gain, the rest of the caps are SoZo
    * NOS Amphenol power tube sockets
    * Belton preamp tube sockets w/ gold anodized shields
    * 18 AWG mil spec Teflon insulated wire
    * 1 watt carbon film resistors
    * Real UK Cliff jacks
    * Brass shaft CTS pots
    * ARS filter caps *Metropoulos “Zero Loss” effects loop w/ true bypass switch
    * NOS tube set with German Siemens EL34 power tubes & original ‘80’s Chinese mil spec 12AX7 preamp tubes
    * Swanson Cabinet birch head cabs available in 20”, 24” and 26” widths with various tolex colors available at no extra charge.
    PRICE: $2,400.00
