Michael Stevens has created another cool guitar which is a stripped down version of his "LJ" model........called.... "Les Plank".

This guitar offers the same or similar appointments as the "LJ" but without a carved figured top and fingerboard binding. The body is a "plank" ala Specials and Juniors and will come with a single P90, double P90s or humbuckers at this stage.

These models as well as the Slant models were unveiled at the Dallas Guitar Show and are getting rave reviews.

Here is the humbucker model in Korina.

OK, here is the double P90 model. Pickup covers and pickguards choices are optional so you can mix and match.

I'll have the double P90 LesPlank, pictured above by Ultra, at the Philly Guitar Show this weekend. If anyone wants to give it a test drive, you are welcome to do so.

I've heard nothing but great things about Steven's guitars, but I'm scared to ask what these new models are going for.

And it is just me, or does the bridge seem to be slightly angled as well? If so, how would that affect tension, string pull, etc.?

The best thing about Michael Stevens guitars can't be seen (and which he shares with Bill Chapin); is that they play so beautifully with a superb feel to them.
Recently I played Barry Mitterhof's Stevens Mandolin - and whilst no Mando player - it felt like a mini '59 Les Paul, a good one too.
Looked like the above guitars scaled down with a Maple top (great finish too), there may be some pics of it on the Hot Tuna site.

    Best, Pete.

Michael Stevens built this for me in 1997. Tom Holmes provided us with the last of the 7 string Nashville/bar stop sets which he had at one time made for the late (and sorely missed) Lenny Breau. The guitar is made from 3 pieces of wood and is a feather. Michael is known as the King of Korina and is considered to be the guy when it comes to original Vs and Explorers. This is a replica of a guitar that was never built. Check out the routes and the extended (past the neck pickup cavity) tenon.

I really dig Stevens cubist thang with his "production" stuff... I would love to get a Les Plank guitar as I was JUST looking for a Les Paul Jr. builder... seems like it'd be a match made in heaven.

While we are admiring the superb workmanship of Michael Stevens, I'd like to share some pics of my main squeeze with you...... a "Stevens Classic".... korina neck and body with maple top, braz board, 25.5" scale and Tom Holmes H450 and H456 pickups.

My photography falls way short in trying to capture the exquisiteness of this guitar.

Michael Stevens should be a household name

Very interesting looking guitars indeed! Ultra, your 'Classic', what size roughly is the body? Is it DC Les Paul/PRS Santana type size, or a little wider all round a la 335? Very neat looking!

Its really only about 1/2" off all round. Check the comparison with my ES345.
The pic is not great but you will get the idea.

I forgot to mention that it has tone chambers each side of the bridge from the bridge pup to about 1" from the bottom edge.

Excellent photo for comparison, thanks. That's a fantastic looking guitar and the make is a new one to me, I must check them out.

Is that one korina as well?

    Two other questions:

    (1) What type of P90s is in those? Who is the maker?

    (2) Is there an upcharge (from the price quoted on Cliff's site) for korina?

Thanks! Is Michael Stevens a big rider? I could swear I met him in 1999 riding probably 40-50 miles southwest of Alpine (where he builds).
