mineral oil on unfinished body

i just picked up an old yamaha tele- style guitar to be a 'beater' instrument. it was sanded raw and the guy put some cutting board/butcher's block mineral oil on the surface... i'm reading up on it now and that sounds like that might not be the greatest thing. thinking about trying out some Tru-Oil on it, but do i have to do something to try to "rid" the mineral oil from the body?

Give the guitar a good wiping with mineral spirits/paint thinner and let it dry before you apply the tru oil.
