Have a 1983 62 reissue Stratocaster I bought new, missing the body contour decal on the headstock. Was this just a oversight on Fenders part? Or?

Possible they swapped an older American standard necK? Is it a rosewood fretboard 7.25 radius with vintage frets?

My very brief search shows pics of a few with the decal. So, either they missed it or it came off as I believe they were on the surface only.

The guitar is massively tainted. Ship it to me (at your costs of course) and I will wave a Lizards Tooth around it three times and get the mojo put back inside the control cavity.

It's a maple fretboard, 7.25 radius, vintage frets. Thanks!

Interesting, I thought all the '62 avri were rosewood, not positive though

Same here, the mystery begins. Guitars are like a woman, the more you think you know them, the less you really do.

Not a great mystery...there was also a '57 reissue in 1983 that sported a maple board.

Maybe a '57 neck (could be entirely '57 if it's also got the single ply pickguard and 8 screws)?

I think those also have the contour sticker though

Yes, the OP's original problem still remains.

Hunting down all the original case candy owners manual, it's a 57 avri. So that problem solved. It sucks getting old!

It should have had the contour body decal - but they were of course waterslide decals over the finish so it's possible that it just wore off over the years. Or it was left off by the factory as an oversight.

Maple fingerboard would be '57 reissue, not '62...there should be a date written in pencil at the butt of the neck...

You can buy one of the good repros and add just that part. I think I might have one or two....PM me and if ya want one(provided I have one) I will give it to you. Simple to add.

Fender’s decals are pretty good, but they are over the finish & can get scratched off. Sometimes they dry out & just fall off depending on how the guitar is stored.

I always thought Fender stopped putting decals on top of the lacquer back in the 5O’s.
