I just picked up a good used pair of JBL Eon 15" G2 powered speakers. Trying to use them for the first time at band practice it seems that I need a female-to-female XLR cable for input from the mixer. Does that seem right to you?

Pretty sure the input for the Eon would be male. I used to carry a 1/4" to male XLR for plugging my Pod into those.

Yeah, the input on those is an XLR Male and then it has an XLR Female output for daisy-chaining to other speakers.

On the back of the EON G2, the "input" is clearly a female XLR.

The male XLR is a slave output.

The labeling is really pretty clear....

From your mixer you need a standard, normal XLR-F - to - XLR-M balanced cable

Honestly, after 40+ years of playing with PA gear, I can't think of any gear that uses a male XLR as an input...

The XLR rule is....
Signal follows the direction of the pin.
The male end, the pin, is the direction of signal flow.
Without getting banned, the female end, the hole, accepts signal.

Males are always outputs.
Females are always inputs.

A guy I knew used to rewire all his males to females.....Not that there's anything wrong with that.....

As a general rule input jacks (on equipment) are female (requiring a male cable connector) and output jacks (on equipment) are male (requiring a female cable connector). So a regular XLR cable M/F is what you need.
