Mod for Ernie Ball 6166?

i believe there is a mod for the 6166 to make it more transparent (less hifi-loss)... any ideas?

Some people have talked about a treble bleed mod, I guess you can google it or maybe ask at DIYstompboxes. Honestly though if you have a buffered pedal putting it AFTER the EB can really help. I find that putting it before helps a little but if I put one after and increase my guitar volume a little bit there's hardly any difference in tone.

I think the buffered pedal before the EB sounds better.

I just replaced the stock 250k pot with a high quality 500k pot and the difference was night and day. I got all my high end and some sparkle back too. Highly recommended.

aha! was the sweep still fairly even?

I wasn't sure initially if it would work so I modified my 25k pedal. The sweep is identical and consistent because I used a pot intended for volume pedals. This it the one I bought : http://www.songwriter.com/bradshaw/pots.php
