Since getting my HD-500 and Eleven Rack which I promptly upgraded to the expansion pack and putting ver 1.31 on the Pod, I find them to be as good as I need or want. I find the available tones to be no excuses excellent. They both are as good as I need or want at this point.
Modelling has arrived to the consumer level market........ IMHO of course.

I have owned all 3 the HD500 the 11R the Axe(twice). I got real good tones out of all them and with a little tweaking any of them were gig worthy(i gigged the 11 and the axe) The HD had some issues for me that I believed have been fixed with updates.

I agree 100% It has arrived

heck -- i thought modeling had arrived all the way back to the origianl POD version 1 "bean" and the Johnson J-Station (which i used for years)

the HD500 is indeed the first modeler that i have LOVED, and have no issues with - i don't regret not having a tube amp onstage, and i don't miss having a big pedalboard with a dozen patch cables and power supply daisy chains, etc.

just the HD500 in my faithful GATOR gigbag and my QSC K12 speaker that i use as a guitar/vocals monitor - and i am good to go!

i can carry my whole rig in ONE TRIP from the car :YinYang

No worries Pink, Just calling it as I see it.
I'll not go into my Collection of amps and pedals that I've been collecting since the early 1970s to try to convince you of my "gear-slutness". It would be redundant.

It has, except where it hasn't. I will vigorously debate anyone who says otherwise.

I think the right term is "gear whoring".

Guilty as charged here too. At least three life sentences.

I compiled a list over the weekend of the pros and cons of my valve amps vs my HD 500, just to make sure that getting rid of the amps would be the right decision.

Want to know what I came up with for the valve amps?

    • They look nicer
    • They smell great when switched on and help keep my practice room warm in the winter.
    True story.

    :)

i also believe the OP stated at consumer level. And hes right.

At that level, the amps your getting are NOT the same quality as some may use - there not $2k heads etc. Also even if they were, not many consumers can turn them up to get the best tones. IMO of course.

At consumer level they have indeed arrived. At pro level its more debateable. Some are happy with them - particularly the Axe, and the possibilities of Axe 2, and there certainly more consistant sounding. Same int he studio. Others however prefere to stick with valves. At that level its a lifestyle choice as much as a sonic one.

But, as stated at consumer level, the HD500 (or bean equivilant) or the 11r (or even a Used AFX Standard at present) is just as good if not better - for a consumers requitrements - than anything else in that price range.

    IMO of course :)

    Indeed.
When anything digital starts to smoke, you're ****ed.
When a tube amp starts to smoke you already know the tone is good and very well may get even better.

If a "consumer" gets to the point where his valve amp is smoking, it wont matter what the tone is like cos he'll be deaf :)

It arrived for some 10 years ago.

    For others it never will.

For me, it has, indeed, just arrived with my HD 500. To the point where I'm realizing that the single tube amp I have left in my arsenal will get precious little play time... Better get it out and crank it up every now and then to be sure it's workin!
