I'm slowly getting past the honeymoon phase with this amp, as expected. But still not loving it any less.

I've been working it over pretty good with my Blackguard Tele tuned to Open G on the half power setting cranked full out with my EP-3 in front of it. By the way, if you add a Crowther Hot Cake and max out the presence on this channel it sounds REALLY NICE, especially for a nice thick, yet biting slide tone. Was using my old Dunlop thick walled slide yesterday and became obsessed with the riffage on "Twice as Hard". For some reason this amp just loves the Tele, cranked to hell, and almost feeling a little "unstable" with itself. The breakup of these Weber Blue Dogs is amazing too, they are sounding a little better everytime I plug the amp in.

Now one of these days, I have to get all my other gear back and start REALLY putting this thing through its paces, and hopefully lay down some decent clips, and I'll post them, if I feel its captured the real character of this amp, which is truly pure magic in a box. Very simple to use amp too.

I know I keep speaking about the OD tone of the amp, but the chiming, detailed cleans on the top boost channel are fantastic too. It's just I love playin' in the dirt.:dude

Rob, like I said man, I'm already deaf, the amp can't hurt me, I can't wait to get a good ABY box and hook it up with my Victoria Double Deluxe, I think it will make quite the pairing.

I recently did a buisiness transaction with a forumite here that is a dealer for these amps. The price is certainly right on these babies, I'll say that for sure! I would order up one on the spot, but am saving for a trainwreck clone.

BTW, Excellent review on the Hayseed 30!:dude

    I think he's located in Fla. I think he's a valvetech dealer/distributor.

Or you can always just get them straight from Rob Pierce the creator and also forumite.

    Go to www.valvetechamps.com

He's an incredibly informative AND PATIENT man.

Very cool BB59. I'm picking up my Hayseed on Sunday. Rob has been great to work with throughout the build time. Oh, and thanks for adding to my Tele gas. I sold my last one to buy my Rickenbacker 330/6 but find myself drawn to Teles a lot lately.

Let me know what the Ric sounds like through the Hayseed. I've been wanting to get one lately, but I also want a 50's RI strat too, OOOOOHHHHH THE HORRIBLE GAS!!!!

Oh and by the way, you HAVE TO GET A TELE with this amp, AND a Crowther Hot Cake. The Hot Cake is just magical with this amp, just like my Klon is with my Victoria. Have not been able to try the Klon with the Hayseed, but I have tried it with other EL84 amps, and I don't care for that tone combo. But the Tele, with that snarling Broadcaster pickup in the bridge, is just an awesome tone to have on your tonal palette. But I'd imagine a strat neck pickup through the top boost channel would be nothing short of amazing as well, though I don't think a Fender Bridge pickup should visit the top boost channel without some ear protection. My Heritage 150CM sounds awesome through the top boost channel though, likes to be goosed by the Hotcake as well, and usually I use the full power setting with this combo.

Killer amp though, really couldn't have asked for more. But I'm anxious to throw my Mullard 12ax7's in there and see what that does to the tone, could be VERY interesting...:D

How does the half power sound on that amp. Does he take two of the EL84s out of the circuit or is it more like a Master Vol type switch rather than a pot?

The half power switch takes two of the EL-84s out of the circuit (the outer two) so it is a true half power switch.

I've had my Hayseed for just over a week now. It lives in my practice space so I've only been able to play it for a short 5 song set at a gig and a few times on my own. I don't have enough experience with it yet to merit a full report but it's everything I was hoping for when I sold my AC30HW to buy it. My Hayseed has the optional EF86 circuit (switchable to 12AX7) on the Normal channel. The EF86 circuit absolutely rocks -- so far, I've just been running the amp with a Startouch A/B switch with a Retroman Beano in front of the Normal channel. Tons of gain that way with a solid bass response. Rob Pierce and I commented on how much it sounds like a cranked Bluesbreaker Marshall with the Beano and the gain turned up on the Normal channel.
The top boost channel has the classic shimmery chime that an AC-30 should have (running this amp with two Celestion Blues, so that helps). The note definition is clear and, well, chimey, much more so that my HW ever was. The Hayseed is exactly what I wanted out of the HW -- pure tone -- without the extra frills.

I've been torn between the Hayseed and the Vox AC30CC head for sometime now. I haven't heard the Hayseed and I'm almost ready to buy the Vox. Which should it be????

Get The Hayseed, PTP wired same cost for the head. Made in USA so if you need service on it, it's easily serviced. Easy tube access compared to the CC. It's a no brainer...

I agree with Brion, but it really depends on what you're looking for and how soon. A Hayseed will take about 12 weeks to build, but that's the price you pay for having one guy build the cabinet and assemble the chassis himself by hand. The EF86 option alone makes the Hayseed worth it IMHO; you can't get that on the CC head.

You guys are getting me so revved up about the Hayseed.

I have a new VAC that Rob built last month which I just adore, but the allure of the Vox-y Hayseed is getting to me. I may need one of each!

I already emailed Rob about a possible Hayseed order, and now you folks are getting me even crazier. Needless to say, Rob is really nailing his amp designs---and doing it at an unbelivably great price too!

Why pay $800-$900 for a chinese PCB Vox when Rob will build you a 30 watt Hayseed w/ master & half power for a little over a grand. I have one & it's well worth the 3 month wait.

Another hayseed fan here. I love the hell out of mine. My latest band is playing out more and more and this thing just kills. Full on jangle with a great low end too. mainstreetexile got the ef86 option on his, which sounds pretty killer.

That's the picture that inspired me to look into the Hayseed and eventually sell my AC30HW in favor of one.

Theoretically, at least, with the ef86 option and the half power switch, you can have the same circuit as the original AC15 (ef86 at 15 watts) AC30/4 (ef86 at 30 watts) and the standard AC30 (12AX7 at 30 watts). To me, it's the perfect combination of flexibility and tone.
