Fantastic!!! I love how "slippery" it sounds.
For the uninitiated, how is the oud tuned?

I've tried to play an oud on a a few occasions and found it very difficult.
My favorite player, who I've been lucky to see live twice, is Simon Shaheen.

BTW - can anyone suggest "Arabic" or Persian guitar tunings?
I've tried a couple but always interested in more.

Beautiful stuff, great playing. I've been listening to a lot of Turkish oud music and it is very inspiring.

Wonderful stuff. Saw a brilliant performance of similar material once up close in Istanbul.
It's the only way to grasp some of Blackmore's finest, not to mention Strunz and Farah!
Any guitarist could benefit well from listening to this music.

I am listening to the Music of Georges Gurdjieff by The Gurdjieff Folk Instruments Ensemble. Really cool stuff. Interesting man also.

Sounds like the origins of Flamenco to me.

origins?
dunno, but
those histories seem way more complex than simple, afaict,
though there is certainly flamenco music that includes the oud.....

by no means am i a great oud-player, but i do deeply enjoy playing the instrument;

here's a track (from 1997?, or 1999?) in which i play a little oud:

my bashiri (7-course, iraqi) oud is tuned thusly, from the bottom up:

D_G_A_D_G_C_F

my turkish oud tends to be tuned similarly, though it's a 6-course.....
