Most desirable guitar made in 1962?

Not sure I'll ever act on this impulse, but I've noticed occasionally other folks tracking down a guitar made in the same year as their birthday. What should I consider as my ultimate "birthday guitar"?

I guess I should be happy I wasn't born a couple of years earlier - I can't afford a real 'Burst.

Hmmm - Jaguar. I actually owned a vintage one briefly in college I traded to Gruhns for a violin. Didn't love it then, but I didn't know much about finding the potential in a guitar then either. I may have to look around and try one again. A Strat or Tele would be a good choice I guess, but I'm not aware of anything that stands out about those made in that year.

John Lennon's Gibson flat top was a '62 model.

I could use a good classical - anyone know of anything particularly cool in that world made in '62?

Probably would have to go with the Strat. I have a reissue 62 and love it; be cool to own the real deal. Or I'd look for a nice ES-355 or maybe an L-5.

I've thought about my birth year, but I'm too old for an LP or Strat or ES-3XX so we'd be talking an L-5 or ES-175.

'62 was good enough a year for fender to specify it on their rosewood board AV reissues.

a real 1962 bound body telecaster would be an awesome find (but not cheap!)

martins? meh, always good but not extra special compared to other years.

gibsons? no LPs, but some great acoustics and archtops.

My understanding is when planning the vintage reissue stratocasters CBS Fender picked 1962 so that they could go with either a slab or thinner lam rosewood board, since it was a transistion year.

Having a 1962 Stratocaster of either type would be nice but I would pick a Martin 00-18 or 00-28.

I have a strat that was made when I was 3. I've had it a long time, I love it.
I say go strat.

1962 is also my birth year and I've also pondered this question. I would go for my favorite guitar, a Stratocaster, in this order: Sunburst (no target or clown bursts though), Olympic White, Sonic Blue, Fiesta Red all with a rosewood neck.

I don't think there were any target bursts until 65 after the CBS acquisition.
Fiesta red strats are sexy.
