I'm wondering what has been the most popular, most sought after, most purchased sig' guitar of all time? I imagine it is impossible to pull data to make the answer legit...but TGP opinions are roughly equivalent :) So what say you?

My argument would be for the Peavey EVH signature guitar.

Btw, Les Pauls and Fenders don't count unless they have an additional artist's name on them (i.e. Slash, Gilmour, etc.)

But Slash has probably sold the most signature model (Les Paul) guitars.

The Clapton Strat i would assume has sold a lot. They've been making them for decades now.
It is the oldest or second oldest Fender sig model, but given that it's pricey I'm not sure that how many they made each year, and if it outnumbered the bajillion Slash sig models at every price point. Consider that there's twice as many Slash guitars for sale on Reverb right now as Claptons or Petruccis.

The Les Paul

Like most folks, I don't view it as being a "signature model" per se, as it is so common, ubiquitous and varied, and it's true that Les himself generally played LP-shaped instruments whose recipes were a long way away from what we think of as a Les Paul.

But if we're going to follow the definition of a signature model to the letter, it technically began life as a signature model, and as such, there is probably no other sig model that has outsold it. Call it a technicality if you must.

Pretty sure it was Beck then Clapton, but despite their longevity I don't think either one has sold enough units to rank in the top five.

If you count the LP (and I don't see how you can't), and if you count all the various iterations of guitars bearing a single artists signature, I think the top five are probably:

  • LP
  • Slash
  • Vai
  • Petrucci
  • EVH

But I don't think that's fair. That's more like tallying up an artist's total endorsement portfolio as opposed to a single signature model. If we count them that way, it's a little harder. I would guess:

  • Vai Jem
  • LP Standard

and.....hmmm.......

Les Paul. Regardless of OP’s feelings. He was the Michael Jordan of guitars. Maybe putting it that way helps people understand just how big Les Paul was as an endorser.

Other than Les Paul…

Silver Sky. Interestingly I’m selling mine.

I don’t buy the John Petrucci sales hype. EBMM doesn’t do those kind of numbers as a company let alone have a model selling that many units.

Not sure how you can exclude Les Paul

Outside of that, probably the Silver Sky (especially if you include the SE models) by volume

With Fender, it's likely the Eric Clapton

Ibanez - Vai

Very skeptical that a Peavey guitar (of any model) would be a best seller, considering they were on the verge of bankruptcy partly due to poor sales (can't remember if they actually went into bankruptcy protection but they were in serious trouble for a while and only emerged as a smallish company) - I know some people here seem to worship EVH but I can't see that translating to guitar sales for a company that can outsell Fender/Gibson/Ibanez or even PRS

Just in terms of what I've seen on stages over the years, I'd go with the Val Jem ... but if EVH is considered a signature guitar of Fender and not a "brand", then I'd definitely go with the EVH guitars from Fender.

Very rarely see signature model Fenders or Gibsons on stages, in fact almost never.

My first reaction would have been the Clapton Strat, but the cost is probably prohibitive of it being a big seller.

Wouldn't surprise if some fluke type guitar like a "Roy Rogers Signature" western kids guitar sold 100x more than any others.
