A lot of the tones mentioned are great, and great players. Maybe not my fav, but up there, and i think def unique... (I haven't gone through the whole thread, but surely I'm not the first to mention these):

Josh Homme in Kyuss. Very throaty.

Ty Tabor in King's X

Check out the tones by Jagori Tanna on the I Mother Earth records released during the 90's. Lots of unique stuff there.

I have Dig and the 2nd album. Loved Dig, didn't like the 2nd. I saw them on tour i think for dig as well. Iirc i bought that first I Mother Earth cd when i heard it was some project that Alex Lifeson was producing. :)

I guess Electric Wizard's Dopethrone was in 2000, but Come my Fanatics had a similar tone, definitely peaked with dopethrone. Never sounded as huge after that one

Trey Anastasio strikes me as unique but I was born in 93 so I don’t have a great take here. Tom Morello too.
