Mullards or not?? The pics show the 163(letters below came off, but 4 were there), the half circle on the plate (is it half or full? / does the metal under the circle mean it is a half circle?), and the short, bent support upon which the halo getter 'sits'.

I read that true Mullards only have the half circle hole in the plate, but I'm confused if the metal underneath 'half of the full circle' makes it a half circle….
    See pic 1 below…

Are these 70's Mullards? They flash and sound good, but not as nice as the RCA's I use to my ears.

The Tubes have two seams and on the base of one, between the pins, there is an L, and an E on the other…..

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried to do the research to identify them myself, but am not sure, and a little confused.

    Cheers...

What, other than the 163, makes it look like a Mullard? Thanks for commenting too:beer.

Lots of features......if you study closeup picks and learn to identify plates, the little chrome ears, etc......you'll learn to identify its a Mullard.

Btw, Mullard 12ax7 don't fit every position in all amps...try it in different slots.

Thanks. I use an old Valco National Amp. i use an RCA 5751 blackplate in the phase inverter, and have tried the Mullard and RCA 12ax7's in the V1. I have a Matsushita 12ax7 in the tremolo position.

The Mullard sounds a bit brighter and leaner than the RCA. The RCA a bit richer and fuller in this amp to my ears. I haven't really given the mullard much of a chance yet in a full on jam session....
