+1 to the above. And $6500?! I have no problem with subtle and tasteful relics, but this is kind of ridiculous

Is Henry from Gibson starting to give Fender a bit of design advice? Good grief.

Like the poster above, I don't mind relics at all, but a burnt guitar is just balls to the wall stupid.

What is the point? Would you be arsed?

If i wanted a strat that looked like it had been set on fire (a big if), I would set a standard one on fire and have the ol extingusher at the ready.

I expect we'll see a host of threads involving the differences in flashpoint between poly and nitro finishes as DIYers enter the fray? :nuts

is this REALLY the tag line Fender went with on this?

An exact reproduction of the classic Strat made to look as if it had survived being set on fire.

Its gettign to the point now where you could probably buy a REAL 1961 Strat that was burnt up for cheaper. :facepalm

    okay.

I see here in the Fullerton Observer that Fender has also found a way to dramatically reduce the number of guitars rejected by QC for various reasons. Wonder how they did THAT? And here on the back page, there's a story about one of the Fender employees who was promoted to Head of Marketing after he accidentally started a fire?

And here's an odd one. Apparently they're hearing loud cackling and "rolling" noises from PT Barnum's grave.

Frankly, I don't see how the whole relic thing has survived as long as it has. A fool and his money are soon parted. :nuts

Not into it. It's one thing to buy a used guitar that is in used condition. But to buy a new guitar that looks like that, at that price just seems ridiculous.

    Mike-

I am a big fender fan. Have 2 fender CS guitars (which equates to 40% of my collection). One heavy relic and one NOS. I generally really like what the CS does to relic the guitars. I had another relic, but recently sold it. You guys do really nice work, imo and I'm currently considering my own custom build.

However, I don't think you can get too upset about people commenting on this. I understand that the shop ordered it this way and all, but fender still put their decal on the headstock. Fender could have said, "interesting idea but this isn't the direction we want to take our products." It's not like the shop did this to the guitar without fender's involvement.

    Just my $.02.
