so what's the short list for a fuzz face fanatic?

Stuff I have that I think belongs on the list

AM red dot and white dot normal gain
the blue dunlop mini, it's just special
either the regular or mini dunlop Hendrix
Got a JB mini coming, I expect it to make the cut as well

so which other "current" production items?

London? Ox? An original Fulltone 69? AM 182/183? I suppose every fuzz face aficionado should own some kind of axis?

Had most of the ones made over the last decade or so. My favorite was a late 90's Diaz Texas Squareface. My OxFuzz II is my current favorite. He tunes them up pretty damned good, regardless of what transistors he puts in them. Just never really figured out any of the Sunface offerings.

You're gonna really like the JB FF.

Especially if they are anything like the Copper Edition a year or so back.

I'm interested in others opinions as well.

The JB is great. And the copper, black and black mini all sound identical.

The Hendrix ff is great - more gain than the JB and still cleans up well.

The Analogman fuzz faces are great in general. Vintage FFs are sort of all over the place in terms of quality and transistor age. The am NKT red dot is as close as you'll get to a 66-68 fuzz face , imho without the guessing game of "is this vintage one ******?"

You should also check out a bc183 fuzz face - the EJ is good but biased to be sort of spitty to make it sound different than the JH. Analogman also makes a good bc183ff. I think solidgoldfx also does but I don't have that one.

The others that I think nail it are the Wren & Cuff fuzz faces and the Manlay Sound fuzz faces.

yep, from what i remember the classic is just a simplified version of the Ge. no toggle switch or external input bias. BTW, you absolutely cant go wrong with Monsterpiece.

My favorites are (sorry I only like Ge):
byoc Ge FF, tweaked
roger mayer classic-x

Also, the fulltone 69 isn't bad.
