I have a MXR MC-402 that I use with my original band. I love the pedal because it is affordable, gives a pretty decent sound when tweaked right, and it gives me a great boost and a decent overdrive in one pedal to save power and space. That said, many people have few good comments on the overdrive portion of the pedal. I agree with most of those experiences. I have found it to be a usable sound, but I think with a couple mods it could be a great sound. Has any mods been put out there yet? Ive done numerous searches, and haven't come up with anything yet. I'm not opposed to paying someone to mod it, but I'm not really into the boutique thing and I'm not unhappy enough with the performance as is to get a different pedal. I think the most helpful mods would be in the eq and maybe the clipping section. Any pedal builders out there have any suggestions?

Maybe email Bob Bradshaw for his thoughts on it.

I had thought of that, to be honest, if he did design it, I didn't want to offend him. I'll give it a shot anyway. Any other builders/modders have anythoughts? Analogman maybe? From what I've found, it seems the overdrive is the Freddie Fuzz circuit?

You won't offend Bob he gets requests for all kinds of stuff all the time. He seems to
understand we're all after something different. Worst he can say is no. ;o)

That overdrive is a little different, when the guitar is turned down below 10 it's a nice
overdrive, but up full it's almost like a fuzz...the character really changes alot.

Yeah, that's why i think some changes to the clipping section could take it more to overdrive territory than fuzz. I've yet to even find a schematic for it, or else I would probably just try some things myself. I know it's designed to be used with an already overdriven amp, but I just think maybe a lower gain structure would probably make it more beneficial to this design.

Bump for more opinions. Anyone have a contact for Bradshaw? The website contact page will not let me submit.

Well, I got a responce from Mr. Bradshaw, but it's not exactly what I wanted to hear I guess. Oh well, not entirely unhappy with the pedal, so I guess no loss.
