I took a chorus pedal off of my board a while ago and kind of miss it but was wondering if the MXR Univibe (newer, smaller version) is a legit alternative. I like the idea of the extra versatility of the Univibe if it is in fact a good chorus pedal as well. Anyone have experience with using it as their chorus and are you happy with it?

    Any insight is appreciated. :aok

it sounds like a fairly phasey vibe. Not much bass / throb, but in a good way. Good before fuzz or a cranked amp. Also it will sound nothing like a chorus at all! :) sorry

It's not delay-based effect. It does not do chorus. It can replace a phaser.

It can do vibe and phaser. It can't do chorus what-so-ever.

What has been said is accurate. I use one as my only modulation.

While chorus & vibe/phase are different types of modulation, they do overlap a little bit in sound, most notably at faster speeds (the faux leslie effect).
OP, if you're looking for a subtle chorusing, then you won't get that with the MXR. However, some vibes have a mix control (I can think of the Villanova), and the throb/phase can be dialed in to your liking, which may cover your modulation needs.

Really? What type of effect is it then?

    A comb-filter is time based.

Thanks guys, I took care of it. I ended up grabbing a mini TWA Flyboy chorus for $34 off ebay. For a new pedal I couldn't be happier. This thing is friggin' tiny which I love and it's plenty of chorus for how I use it. Set it and forget it mostly. Quality little pedal.
