Got a text today while hanging out in Beijing. No idea what will happen, this really puts a bite in my otherwise nice vacation.

Holy crap mine has been gone a month already. I miss her expertise & experience, but we seem to be getting by. Good luck!

Vacations are meant to be worry free and all that

I hope with your boss leaving that doesn't open up a chasm of questionable leadership in her/his replacement

Time to get another job. Often times when a boss leaves, it's a signal something is wrong with the company.

I had this happen once. The boss left the company - then the company closed a few months later.

If it wasn’t for him I would have bailed long before. Now it looks like this will happen.

Enjoy your vacation. There is nothing you can do about this at the moment and worrying about it is less than useless.

I can look back at the times I've been through similar situations and I can honestly say its always led to a better situation one way or the other. Sometimes the handwriting is on the wall so to speak and something much better awaits.

It's not always a bad thing. Sometimes a boss quitting could open the doors for new opportunities.

My Boss quit and was replaced 3 days before the 2 weeks notice was up.

We’re all replaceable folks and the planet keeps spinning .... for now.

Maybe context is need to understand the severity of the situation. In my work environment, bosses are a dime a dozen. If one leaves, there's like twenty more that show up clamoring for his/her job. It's like three's more bosses then employees.

Well, you might have less catch up work to do with no boss (or a brand new one) upon your return from vacation. Or you might have more...or you might get a promotion!

Ask for his/her job, before they give it to someone else who's less deserving of it than you. Trust me. It couldn't hurt to ask.

When you get back and meet the new boss we can finally settle whether they are in fact the same as the old boss

The boss job is where they put the people who can't do the job-job..

Unless your a boss who posts on TGP.. Then I'm sure you could do the job-job..

Then who's going to pay me? I report to the owner of the company and he signs my checks, so to speak.
