The old ones are awesome. Look at that top!
wow that top is nice....
Love PRS natural tops. I'm always drawn to them. Have an ME that way. What is that, an older Cu24? A stunner!
Yeah, from 1986 (I think). BTW, it's not mine, I just found the picture a while ago and saved it so that someday I can have a replica built!
Here's my '86. Bought it m'self new.
That looks nice, but it's hard to see the flame. Got any more (and bigger) pics?
The flame is nothing to write home about compared to many other PRSi. When I bought the guitar, I passed on another one with the same finish that killed this one in flame (in fact, it looked remarkably similar to one you posted) but could not equal its tone. The top on mine is, however, unique and, two decades later, remains as attractive and interesting to me as the day I bought it.
Beautiful! I love old eastern maple. The way the old VY color fades is nice too. The newer VYs look too yellow, and the natural tops are too natural. PRS should offer a faded VY color option.
It was all downhill from 1986/87 for PRS.
Uh oh, don't say that on BAM or fireworks will result!
As you can see, my VY is quite orangey. In fact, it's as orange a VY as I've ever seen and, interestingly, though the finish has sunk so far into the wood you can read the back like braille it hasn't faded at all.
Yeah, I'd get banned for sure! Although I do have a PRS CU22 from 2000 (I had to wait for their lefty version), it was the originals that made their mark on me.
Yours hasn't faded at all? It definitely looks different than the new VYs. I guess the different stain formulation and older maple causes that. Put it out in the sun so that it looks like the first picture!
Jon yer killing me!! Reminds me of the '88 Custom 24 I had in Vintage Yellow that I should never have sold. The 10 top on that thing just popped. Mine had a bit of orange tinge to it too, here she is:
Those are beautiful! That's before they started staining the crap out of the tops. I love the way they glow!
Maybe I'm crazy but I swear I bought that guitar around 7 years ago and sold it about two year later on ebay.
I actually bought that guitar back in '99 from a local store but then I sold it in 2000 stupidly. If it wasn't for the the chip in the top of the headstock, it looked like it was never played.
Maybe I bought it from you!!!! That IS the guitar. I know it had the slight reverse chevro below the bridge and a band of wide flame near the neck pup. Small world!
Small world indeed!! Of all the guitars I've bought and sold, that one is definetely at the top of my "regret I sold" list.
