I bought this from a fellow Gear Pager yesterday after having lusted after them for a couple of years now. I sold a Marshall to get it but it was worth it. It didn't like my Marshall 4x10 but it loves a Fender 1x12 I have, and I'll most likely end up getting a new cab for it. Very cool amp. Came with a custom made Studio Slips cover too.

I didn't buy it because it was boutique but because I loved the way it sounded when I first saw it at the TGP get together a couple years ago at Peter's. Big Mike had just gotten his and was showing it off, and it sounded glorious. Anyway here she is.

PS thanks Chris for the great deal!

    sweet!

Something happens when you get all of the extras out of the way and have some pure tube tone.

    Congrats!

Welcome to the Greer Cam 18 club! Hearing Big Mike's tone on a club gig did it for me, and I had to get one. Here's mine, I had to have the stripes go all around the head! The matching cab is fantastic as well!

Congratulations! I really like the color combination on that.

    EDIT: John,

    What speakers are you using?

Congrats!! Fantastic amps. As you know, I'm quite smitten with mine. Bought that long before I became a dealer.

BTW try some 6L6's with the 4x10 cab. And play with the tone (cut) knob, makes a big difference. Plug and play with 6l6, I suggest the Tungsol STR's.

When I ordered the cab, I had every intention of putting in a set of Scumbacks. Traded some emails back and forth with Big Mike and Nick Greer, and went with a mismatched pair of speakers. The descriptions below are cut from an email from Nick describing his speakers (made by Weber) that I decided on.

GA1230--brighter, slightly stiffer Greenback type sound with some (not
too much) presencey highs, and as always, a great ass...oops, i mean
bottom end. Usually paired with a 40GBS in our 212 cabs, 30 watts.
GA1240GBS--Greenback (Blackback) copy, 30-40 watts of handling power...I
lean low on this, Ted says they'll handle 40...

Honestly, the cab sounds fantastic! There was a very short break in period, I couldn't be happier with how it sounds.

Thanks guys. It's kind of an exclusive club here isn't it? So greenback type speakers huh? I might try an Avatar cab with a greenback and a G1230.

That'll sound great Sparky. It's what Nick is currently offering in his 2x12s, as they've had some issues with supply on the Greertone speakers.

Welcome to hook up with me some time and run them through Scumbacks if you like too. I use the Scummy equivelent of the M/H.

Yeah we should do that sometime. Hell we need to do another bay area get together. Was that the last one? Where you unveiled your CAM18? I'd like to get the Scumbacks but I don't know that it's in the financial cards.

About the 6L6s- does that change the output impedance or is it el34s that does that? I'm gonna give that a shot and see what it does for me.

I'm not sure you can Run EL34's, I'll check with Nick for you. 6L6's is just plug and play. Cleans it up and gets it sounding more 'american' to my ear. No impedance change necessary.

Also play with the pre tubes,, they are really responsive to that, I usually run new tubes, the EH12AX7 in V1 and a Sovtek LPS in the PI, but different things will react differently. It's pretty cool.

Nick said No Go on the EL34's. The trannys can't handle it.

6v6JJ, 6l6, 5881 are all fine. NO bias/impedance change required.

Thanks Mike. I actually wasn't considering putting el34s in the amp, just trying to remember that output impedance thing. In an amp that can go from 6v6s to el34s there is a change in output impedance IF I'm remembering correctly. But apparently not 6L6s so I'll give them a go. I was actually looking for a bit more headroom too.

Another nice benefit is that all of Nick's amps I've heard take pedals very well.

I still have yet to try them. What brand of 6L6s are you using?

I can attest to that. Mine is taking my pedals very well.
