Seriously what's wrong with people? I told him, you know you can buy an amazing amp for 2 grand? Heck you can buy a hell of a guitar for 2 grand, instead he bought a pedal that doesn't sound much better than some 200 dollars pedals out on the market (that part was my opinion, I understand others may feel differently).

Can a simple overdrive pedal really be going for 2 grand? No germ trannies, no expensive BBD chips, just a simple buffered overdrive pedal with a charge pump in it.

I may have to give my friendship a bit of a time off with him lol.

TS808s with an R by the logo go for $500-$900
Same sound as the later TS808s, same as TS9s with some Mods.
Same sound as MANY copies, but some people have the cash and just want it.
If it inspires them to play a little more or whatever, then it's all good.

If he doesn't like it, he can flip it for the same.... and at least he (and you! :) ) get to try "the real thing", and decided if it's worth keeping or not.

... and while 2k for a pedal may be a bit much, it's a lot less than a Porsche, Ferrari, or summer home :)

As a poor person, it grinds my gears a bit.

But yeah, his money, if he wants to buy a litter of kittens put'em in a potato sack and throw it in the ocean, more power to him.

Overkill is great because inspiration is endless.

IMO paying $2,000 for an overdrive pedal is overkill.
But... I guess not for your friend?

Anyhow. You were a friend by giving a dissenting opinion and point of view,
now be a friend and let him enjoy his overkill... I mean overprice... I mean overdrive.

In all seriousness. It is hard sometimes to stand by while a friend does
something that we don't understand or agree with. But... to each their
own.

I've seen friends blow a few grand at the casino, so I figure your friend coulda done worse things with his money.

Speaking of gear grinding, was that example really necessary or were you just looking for a good reason to be able to say something like that?

I hope he can get his money back when he decides he don't like it with the gain up... I actually liked mine with the gain about half way up!. Sold it when the prices crept up to 300 bucks or so. I had traded a Fulltone Chorus Flange pedal even for it so I guess I did ok. Do I wish I had kept it? Heck Yes! I'd love to get 4 figures for that thing these days! Would I still be rocking it? hmm I dunno. It was a cool pedal but somebody wanted my chorus pedal more.. and I wanted 290 bucks more than I wanted to keep it. The hype is just insane these days.

All that said Ive blown 2k in worse ways. At least he has a valuable pedal to show for it.

Actually, if he does this, please, PM me well in advance.

I will be arriving on the scene with the SPCA close at my heels.

I hope he's a good player, because he's going to sound exactly the same after as before.

Exactly. I was just about to write "but can he play?" before seeing this. That would suck for him to fall into a depression when he realizes he sounds fundamentally the same as before.
