I've got a problem with my Weller iron (it's a simple soldering station without the variable temperature control), for years it worked fine but now it gets too hot. Edit: the tip of the iron glows faintly red.

Does anybody have an idea how to fix this? A new iron? or is something wrong with the base-unit?

    Thanks a lot!

    Never heard of that brand.

What happens when you turn the heat control down?

With a "fixed" temp iron you can buy different temprature tips, but I think the stock one is either 700 or 750, which should be fine.

So do you think changing the tip will fix it?

Maybe I didn't explain my problem good enough. My iron worked like a charm untill a few days ago. It became too hot, like somehow the (fixed) thermostat is 'on' all the time.

My question is: what do you think the problem is? Something inside the base unit? the tip?

    Thanks.

If the tip is glowing red might be the internal thermostat gone bad...seems like the tip should be hot but not glowing...good luck with it...
