my 72' marshall 1987 arrived today! always wanted a 72 because ive heard so many people rave about that year in particular. I'm a longtime marshall player who's had a bunch of different vintage heads and models. I haven't had much time so far, mostly just to take the chassis out to inspect and make sure everything worked and sounded the way it should. Right away I was very impressed though! This one is a canadian import with the lay down transformer which is a first for me. Came loaded with Nos Tesla el34s which was a great surprise since Im a big fan of those. There were ruby preamp tubes but I put in nos mullards in v1 and v2 and a jan ge 5751 in v3 I had here. One thing thats weird though is a previous owner has written the impedance settings by the selector but they don't match up to the usual spots. I set it to match my cab based on the written numbers and it sounded good but im still a bit nervous before I can have my tech give it a checkup. Here are a bunch of pics you guys for you all. I know there has been some replaced components on the board and a replaced pot,etc but there is still a good amount of red dye on there. the trannies are original too so im happy about that. there were two holes in the back panel that i plugged up so obviously someone in the past had modded it in some way. seems put back to normal to me though. For those here who are more knowledgeable that me can you point out any craziness you see?? again, i know its not 100% untouched but soundwise its one of the best marshalls ive owned in the 69-88 years ive had.
