[IMG] So Thursday at work we take a break and I'm looking at the Craigslist app on my phone. I see an ad for a "Marshall cabinet and GK 250ML $200". Not too horrible a price if it were a decent cab, so I shoot the guy and email and think nothing about it. Never heard back from him.

So today I'm looking at CL again and I search out his ad. It is still there so I text him to see if he has any pix of the amp and cab. He responds with pix. It is a 4x12 1960a. Hmmm. $200 and you get a GK 250ML and a 1960A? Hmm. So the guys says "Are you interested?", and I tell him yes. He calls my # and gives me directions to his house. I ask about the cab. He says it's a JCM 800 cab...and that he has the head too, if I want that but it needs a bit of work. Oh. He also says he'd sell that for $100 more. Okay....

So 20 minutes later I have this...

    Not a Rosemary...but a Karen...

So she came on, but was running way hot so I shut her down immediately. Off to the tech on Monday I reckon. So for about the price of a used cab I got a combo and a JCM 800 head. Not pretty, but at least the cab sounds fantastic....we will see about the head...

This is why I can never leave craigslist unchecked for more than 4 hours. Sweet!

So what's the consensus on the Celestion 65 w speakers in this cab? At first blush they seem warmer than the 75 and V30's.

When he said "Yeah, I've got a Marshall head too that I'd let go for $100", I had to kind hold my breath....
The whole ride over I said to my girl, "This will fall through..."

    Unexpected, indeed.

-the 65's are my second favorite speakers-and they're not cheap!-

-vertical input JCM 800 with the original cab,....

-why doesn't this ever happen to me,.. No disrespect ment, but you don't know what you have,... drop to your knee's and thank god...

-the tubes will more than likely be worth more than you paid for everything-

Sadly one of the 6550's was afflicted with the dreaded cloud...milky white. However the good news is my tech is stoked to see the latest amp and is taking her in for the once over Monday.

    He's suggesting KT77's. Any thoughts?

wow...dayum. you got the most desirable speakers and probably the most desirable 800 (which is subjective, of course). and the guts look stock. sheesh. nicely done.

    -KT88's-(GOLD LION's)-far superior than KT77's-

-the MARSHALL mid honk is a product of ciriut design rather than tubes, the KT88's are big bottle tone monster's, push the plate voltage & bias.... put a low gain 12au7 in the P.I. hole and rock that biatch..

I dunno, KT88s are a big tube for that amp, more strain on the filament winding without much increase in power. I'd look at the KT77s!

And for a JCM800, 65s are THE speaker. Also good for Dumble type amps-take more power than an H30 with the same bark.

I would go with EL34's myself. Nothing else has that growl.
