So torn between between doing something like a Bassman/HPTT with Lou or Greg Germino - both seem to have stellar reps!

My only experience is with the Fender Bonamassa Twin, which was a nice amp but ended up not staying…

I think in regards to these 2 specific amps, nothing out there is going to beat Lous.
You should also talk to him about a LPTT if you have any interest. I have never played one but trust Lou when he says it's one of his best. It's not a clone.

i heard a germino marshall 45 i believe that sounded really good so i believe he does good work and obviously has range.

but i just heard another of lou's amps (the garratone) and it's another individual piece of art. i don't know how he's doing it. it's just next level tone he's getting. it's endlessly amazing to me how different they sound and yet have the same magical musical richness. just listen to the op vid or any other video you can find online and the amps speak for themselves. i think i'm beginning to even understand what they're saying. it's "the elves made me while lou was asleep"

My point is if a vintage Fender was brand new they would definitely beat an RI.

I disagree, but the good news for us, is both types are available! The big companies making the RIs and a slew of small builders making them exactly like the vintage were if that's what you want.

Curious what you didn't like about the Bonamassa Twin?

I don't have Lou's Bassman type Amp but I have his
Gattone. I would like to get his Bassman yet I'm very
happy with my Amp.

i love the gattone. is there a better tribute to a guy than to name an amp of that quality after him? but if i could get the bassman too i certainly would.

Bassman sounds WAY better in these clips.
I always felt BF rules the clean world at low and medium volumes, but once you crank them up, tweeds take over.

...and yet, one of my favorite sounds is a dimed Black/Silverface Twin Reverb, a la Bloomfield, Johnny Thunders, or Steve Jones. So loud hardly anyone gets to hear it.

I am still on the lookout for someone who can make a flat out Twin sound at practice volume. Until then I'm planning on using a Fryette.

It's such an amazing rock and roll sound I'm a bit surprised someone hasn't done it yet.

Anywhere after the 2min mark on this vid:

Some of that is the P90 amazingness - but I've got the P90 guitars ready and waitin'

Hey great vid, can you explain how you came up with the 16 ohm on Fryette to 4 ohm on Twin?

A compilation of stuff from last week's gig with the LE Bassman. I've been able to play Lou's Bassman and my old Victoria side by side for about a week now. I'm pretty attached to the Victoria but gotta say, the LE is about as close to the feel of an old Bassman as I've experienced. It's a complete joy to play. Like buttah. I'd describe it as all of the good stuff and non of the not-so-good. The gig was very lightly attended and with a mostly empty room I couldn't get away with too much volume. Where it's lightly dirty it's a TS9 with just a hint of grit, the dirtier stuff (like the LP) is a Zen Drive. In a bigger room with more people I'd probably use the Tube Screamer a little less and just let the amp do its thing. The camera is a GoPro at my knee and a little off axis but it's a pretty decent representation of the sound in the room. Folks talking in the background gives you a sense of the volume in the room.

There are a few tunes in the clip with different tones and such so skip around a bit.

I'll make some notes on the differences between the Louis Electric and my Victoria in a bit. It's a pretty dramatic difference.

Great tones, wonderful playing. Very enjoyable. There's nothing to complain about here. it's really 'something special'!

An attenuator is the only way I know of, and even that's not the same as its not distorting the speakers. The Kemper profiler is probably the best all around way to get the true sound down in volume.

Hi DiPa.

The video isn't mine, but one of the benefits of the fryette is you can select input and output impedences independently. That's what I've read anyway.
