1. During the first week of August 2020, we'll be upgrading the software TGP runs on to the currently available up-to-date version. The software version is a significant upgrade, so there will be some downtime as we do the work under the hood. We've got a team of professionals, including the software development company assisting the process. We've conducted substantial tests using backups of the current forum to ensure a smooth and successful upgrade. We've gone to great lengths on the design of the theme (aka 'skin' or look and feel) of the forum to offer a better user experience for members and visitors. The default theme will be new, yet clearly influenced by the classic TGP look. We will have a dark version of that also easily selectable. Also available will be a "Classic TGP" theme that closely matches the current theme you are accustomed to using with the current software. There is also an easy width adjustment to make it set width or expand to your window width for each theme. As we get closer, I'll update everyone so hopefully, no one will be caught by surprise.

Boss Dimension C worth the hype.

DOD Classic Fuzz. I think GP magazine gave it a great review. Said it sounded like a good Big Muff. It didn't.......

Worth it: Analogman KOT (although it does sound different from amp to amp, which is why I am not surprised some people think it’s overrated).

Disappointment: Xotic SL Drive. The one pedal I got rid of right away.

Worth the Hype: Boss SY-1. Just so much fun jam packed into 1 pedal. You can get lost for days with this beast. And the tracking is fantastic.

Let down: Way Huge Swollen Pickle. I found it was really hard to tune to get a good tone. Their were so many bad tones and it was frustrating. I like simple muffs. For me Muffs work best when they are simple.

yeah, should have thought of that - the SL drive also sucked for me. SP compressor, EP booster - fine - SL drive ... meh

Timmy - 100% worth the hype. Its an incredible boost/OD/tone shaper.

Not hyped - but I was kinda excited about the JHS PGM-14. I didn't really like it at all.

Worth it: KTR. I didn't even know what a Klon was when I walked into a guitar store looking for an overdrive (I know; my TGP card will be revoked for this). They put out a bunch for me based on what I said I needed; I played them all and then pointed at the KTR and said, "What's that? That thing is amazing."

Of course, that was when you could get a new one for $220 or something like that. I'm not sure I'd think it was worth it now...

Disappointment: Suhr Eclipse. On paper, it's perfect for me, and it's incredibly well thought-out. In practice, there's this awful cardboard weirdness in the sound. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

OCD for me as well. I think I've tried three times and have never cared for it.

Xotic BB Preamp MB, just can't find a decent substitute to push my 2203, and tried tons of (various Wamplers, OCD, BoR to name a few). It has the right amount of grid and compression and I find it very amp like, at least the way I use it (gain below 9 o'clock and volume maxed).
Disappointed by the Maxon SD9, I was expecting THE overdrive, tried with a 2203, with an AC30 and with a Pro Reverb, just too dark for my taste not tweakable enough to get the tone I have with the BB, and poor volume.

Worth the Hype: Russian Fuzz Factory 7
Disappointment: Fuzz Factory Vexter from about 6 years ago.
Just goes to show you a few things, but expectations are a big part of it. Also, I mighta been trying to force into a use it was no good at, rather than see what the tool could do for me.

Disappointment: KOT when I first got one. Thought it had too much midrange and not enough low end; sold it.
Worth the hype: KOT. Bought another one years later to try again, figured I could obviously flip it and make some $ if I still didn't like it. I had switched amps by then and it worked much better with the new one. Experimented with different chips and found perfection.
