Hey guys - if anyone out there has recommendations on local bands to check out in Nashville, I'm all ears! Definitely going to check in on Don Kelley to see which axe-slinger is on the roster - missed J.D. Simo but this new kid is a monster, too.

Also looking for music shop recommendations, even if off the beaten path.

Thanks guys! Looks like Gruhn's has some sort of special event this weekend - might bring back something cool :)

Carter, Rumble Seat and Gruhn's are all on 8th Ave. Start at Carter and make your way to each of them, but first start with lunch at Arnold's (right next to Carter).

I'd suggest you go check out Derek Norsworthy & The Highway Stars @ the basement Saturday night. (8th Ave S)

I met up with my wife in Nashville during her work trip, spending a weekend. I'm not a country music fan but I appreciate good musicianship. In the tourist center (two cross streets, can't recall the names) you'll find club after club, nonstop music..however..I heard the same damn covers no matter where we ducked in. Do all these cover bands agree on a singular set list? No original music. 2nd night, we did some research on rock/indie clubs and less touristy places. I can't recall where we ended up but we caught a couple indie bands playing to empty venues.

Honestly, I had more fun on our day's worth of historical travel, including visiting the civil war battleground in and around Franklin.

Nashville, downtown was like Disneyland with cowboy hats.

Daniel Donato has not been playing with Don for a few months now. At this time, he really doesn't have a specific " axe-slinger " playing. He is mainly using 2 guys, Porter McClister and Matt Lee. Both to them are great players. They rotate but Porter almost always plays the 10-2 shift on Sunday. Porter is bad ass ;)

Rock Block Guitars is fun. When I was there they had a great selection of Deusenbergs and a broad range of pedals. There's a cool bookstore next door too.
