I have a 6505+ and also a a Triaxis rig. They both sound great in their own way but I feel the Mark sound is a little tight and the 6505+ is either too modern or I'm just tired of it. I've been gigging with it for years.

Recommend me a good amp for 80's hard rock and classic metal I.e. Dio, Priest, Scorpions, Whitesnake , etc.

    Thanks

PT100. I searched for that sound for a decade and the Suhr delivers it in spades.

Anything Marshall or Mesa Mark based will do that kind of music in spades. If it were me and that way my main focus of tone I would probably have a Marshall JVM, 800 or a DSL but the Mesa Mark stuff sounds amazing too and will nail the Whitesnake tones. A bit harder to dial in but sound great.

    Soldano SLO-100.

But yeah, you can't go past the JCM 800.

Can the JVM or a DSL do the 800 thing? It's been awhile since I played either. I wonder how the new DSL's are

All these guys are recommending the JCM800 , but they only do it MODDED, or with pedals. . NO problem with either of those options though! I've had my 2204 since about 1988 or so , but I had it modded. There are MANY MANY MANY options to sound like those bands guitar tones. Eric

The JCM800 and the Mesa Mark III were kind of the main amps used in a lot of 80s hair/metal bands... If they didn't use those amps, they usually used rack mount preamps (like the ADA) and mesa power amps. So the Marshall and Mesa suggestions are pretty spot on.

Stryper was all Mesa back in the day, still is today, with an EQ pedal bump in the mid frequency. Metallica also used Mesa Mark amps.

    High Gain Marshall

Chorus, harmoniser and delay in the loop.

No substitutions, I can smell the hairspray from here.

JMP/JCM 2204/3 and a boost. When your done with the 80's high gain sound, turn off the boost and the amp will do just about anything.

It IS THAT SOUND,.....everything else will be an interpretation, approximation, imitation. IMO
