Guitar player looking for a bass combo that will hang with a rock/blues type band for under $250.

I don't mind buying used. What is a good wattage to shoot for?
I realize there may not be many options...what do you think of these that I recently saw on craigslist?

-Ampeg BA115 Bass Combo - 100 watts
-Peavey Combo 300 Bass Amp - 300 watts

I use the BA115 regularly at church and it's perfectly fine. The Peavey will give you more headroom. Ashdown makes a combo model that's around 100-180W that goes new for around the same price as the Ampeg. I would also check out Behringers. I own a GX110 guitar amp and I love it for recording and small gigs. I've used a smaller, 45W Behringer bass amp and it sounds surprisingly good, so the larger ones, which are 180W., sell new in your price range and are worth checking out. They sound sort of like Hartke clones.

Best he's probably going to do in that price range is Peavey. But don't worry, those things are pretty much indestructable and have a half life of around 20 years!

Check out the Mark Bass amps - very light, very good sounding, they hang fine with a drummer.

Somehow I don't see Mark Bass and under $250 occurring in the same sentence.

The Peavy mentioned has the minimum wattage for playing with live drums (indoors). Best bang for the buck.

The Ampeg would have a nicer tone though.
