There's a chance I'm going to be selling this for a friend in the near future, but I'm having a hard time finding this guitar, and figuring out how much it's worth. He said that he bought it new years ago, and that it shipped from the factory with pickguard shown but may not be "correct" for the model. It has the case, and all the original case candy including the COA. It's in good shape, no heavy wear, frets are good, neck is straight. Neck and body both date to April of 1994. This is a USA and NOT a Tribute.

Any idea what these bring? Also, does anyone know what version of ASAT this is? He said it was a "special" but I can't confirm. Thanks in advance!

I'd say more like $650 normally, but $550 may be about right in the current market. Stuff is not moving at all.

G&L stuff just doesn't hold value on the used market, especially with how much things have slowed down of late. I have an ASAT Classic that would be $1,600 if I were to buy it new off of the wall of a dealer, and I would be lucky to get half of that if I were to try and sell it. If he can hold it for a while, he might see another $100 or so when things start to thaw again.

I've purchased more than a few USA G&Ls over the years for $500-650, including a mint ASAT Special for $545 shipped.

G&Ls are a great value on the used market. Not so much when you buy them new...

These go for anywhere from 800.00-900.00 here in Canada. They are excellent instruments and well worth 750.00 in the USA.
Good luck with the sale

Really that low huh? He was talking about hoping to shoot for $900-$1100.

This is a brand new USA ASAT Classic with warranty, case and all candy, for $975 shipped.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/G-L-Asat-Classic-3-Tone-Sunburst-Rosewood-Fretboard-Alder-Body-Asat-MFD-Pickups-/370665746836?pt=Guitar&hash=item564d667194

I actually bought this 3 months ago for $925 shipped but returned it. When I was looking there were brand new ASATs for $950-ish all day long. And the Classics go for a bit more than the Specials.

The early 90s G&Ls with 3-bolt necks are not worth any more than any other G&L. I had a 1994 G&L Legacy Special with 3 bolt neck, and sold it here for $500 shipped in excellent condition with case.

It should also be noted this is NOT a Tribute series.

I ended up buying a G&L ASAT Classic Tribute for $300 shipped last month. It isn't close to the guitar the USA was (even though it has the same USA made pickups), but at least I finally found out I'm not a Tele guy, and it didn't cost me much.

There are no options that would make this anything out of the ordinary. No binding, figured top or neck, painted headstock. I'd think 600-700, a great guitar for the money.

$600 to $800 ... More the high end if some one really wanted it . If it was local and I Played and liked it I would personally have no problem dropping $700 or more for iT as I love asats ( have 2) and that one is VERY nice .

3 bolt neck, OHSC, cert., nice flamey neck, looks like a one piece body,...I'm thinking $700.-$800., Some folk's love (including me) the early '90s ASAT special p-ups, as far as the $550. price some have quoted, I feel in the emporium it would last about 5 minutes, or until I saw it at that price, which ever came first. 550-750 depending on buyer

Note this is an ASAT. Not a special. There weren't specials at this time period. Specials came after they stared making the small MFD "Classics" so they could differentiate I assume.

The original ASATs all had these Large MFDs which are now associated with the current day's Specials

I sold a Legacy from the same era for $450, but it had SD Noiseless PUs in it. I had no interest at all at $550.

G&L's are not great for the seller, on the used market.

^^^ Pre BBE ASAT models were as follows:

-ASAT, '86-'98

-ASAT special '94- present,...Most model, and changes were added in '95 (except the ASAT III, 3-p-up model which started mid-'94) and lasted through '98, their are double bound 'classics' that were introduced in '94, and are as desired as the 'Leo' signed horn early models...the ASAT S3 and Z3's were introduced in '98, Bottom line...The early '90 G&L's are becoming quite collectable, and an still be had at a player guitar grade price,...But, I feel...not for long especially if they come with their OHSC and certificate, great guitars. Unfortunately, as someone mentioned, the market is what drives value. I've personally found this out recently unloading some gear. Timing becomes everything...That said $600 would be about right.

Guys I follow G&Ls very closely as far as how they are selling. The market for G&Ls is quite a bit better than even a few years ago. It really is. I have bought and sold a bunch of them and there is no question that the market has gotten a better understanding of just how good G&Ls are. Like anything else, this is not 100 pct as there are still sales that happen below where they should be but I'm telling you that used G&ls are bringing better than they used to. I could get way more into detail about what models etc but let me just say that the secret is out on them.
