    Hello folks -

I'd like to investigate a brighter sounding P-90 for the neck position on my Les Paul BFG. The stock ones not bad, but I'd like to find a replacement that is clearer, maybe more treble, less boomy too. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

i've used mighty mite p-90s in a couple different guitars. you can find them on Ebay and they've never been too expensive.

Fralin P90 - alnico IV magnet instead of the typical alnico V. To my ears, cleaner, brighter and less compressed.

You could also try an Fralin that's underwound as well. Say 10% under.

Anyone try the Dimarzio DLX Plus in the neck? I think it's DP162....

Another vote for the fralin alnicos. They are just what you're looking for. I put them in the neck and middle positions of one of my guitars. They replaced regular fralin P-90s and they brightened it up a good bit. Nice clarity too.

I'd be interested in hearing how you make out. I've thought about doing the same on my BFG from time to time. The stocker can get raunchy in a good way though :)

    From Fralin's P90 page:

You want the ones with alnico polepieces, not adjustable screws like the stockers. The polepiece models are more like really fat Fender pickup.

    CitizenCain is right.

The Alnico POLEPIECE ones are alot brighter than the regular ones. That's what you want.

A -10 underwound regular one would sound pretty good as well, but for a real high end sparkle, the alnico polepiece ones fit the bill.

    I've tried both.
