Wah-lah! In these instances instinct works best. Of course, that doesn't mean your instinct is always right.
What type of metal? Metallica/Anthrax type metal would lean more towards the LP. Whereas Megadeth type metal would lean towards the Schecter.
I'd maybe choose the Schecter if it wasn't for the extra long 26-1/2" scale. I can deal with 24-3/4" or 25-1/2" scale necks just fine, but my reach isn't that good, so I wouldn't want a longer scale.
you wanna play metal in that price range? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Jackson-DKMG-Dinky?sku=512231
its actually 25.5... they mixed it up with the 7 string version oh and i do wanna be able to play metal but also some rock/blues etc
If you like the quilted tops, check out the Hagstrom Ultra Swede. 24 3/4" scale so it is slinky. Basswood body so it is lighter than the Epi. I just bought one and am super impressed. http://cgi.ebay.com/HAGSTROM-ULTRA-...oryZ2384QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem If you're looking for a mahogany body, check out the Swede, or get a used Godin LG. That is a killer deal for a custom-feel guitar.
