i was recently given a stratocaster that supposedly has an original 1962 body, I was wondering if anybody out there knows how to identify if this is an original, as it does not have the original neckplate, or if there is any way to tell otherwise, E.G. paint or stamping that I may be overlooking, will be glad to post photos that may help you help me, as I am interested in selling soon. the research I have done indicates it may have been produced in late 1962, but I don't know for sure. anyone's thoughts and knowledge is appreciated.
    thanks!!

I've got a buddy that has a 62. The build date is written in pencil under the finish in the trem cavity under the springs. That won't help you if it's not a burst. Here is a link to some good Fender vintage info I refer to all the time. Good luck.

check for nail holes (3 on the front) near the trem, jack cocket route and up near the neck pocket, also check the ageing patina if the finish is original
