Can anyone tell me why I lose sound when I turn off the phase effect on my MXR Vintage Handwired Phase 90? The guitar sound passes through fine when I have the phase effect engaged. However, when I push the foot switch to disengage the phase effect I lose all sound of the guitar.

I made sure it had a good battery and even plugged it into a 9v wall adapter. No change.

Pedal dies when the effect is disengaged?
Sounds like a bypass issue - check the switch, any loose wires? Give it a shot of cleaner down the little gap at the top.

Yes it has to be a switch problem if it works when ON. Good time for a bypass mod :)

A long chain of tbp pedals with the phase 90 and it s hardwire bypass (i assume?) could suffer from issues like that - when your phase 90 is on, it buffers the signal which can now drive a long chain, when it s off though, you re losing signal until the first buffer. Try a buffer before it just as a sanity check and so as to exclude the possibility of a switch gone bad :)

That is unless you meant "all sound" literally..
