Need help with changing a tube.

Hi, I have a 1995 Fender Super Amp. It's a two channel amp, one clean and one overdrive. I'd like to get a better or more distortion out of the second channel but I don't know which preamp tube position is the one I need to change and where it is -looking at the back of the amp from right to left. I'd also appreciate a recommendation for a good preamp tube/tubes that will be an improvement over the original 12 year old one.
Thanks,
Juda

This might not be the case if the preamp tube you have is in good condition. Try a few new tubes and listen. Use what you like the best.

V2 (second from the end nearest the input jacks) is the one that most affects the overdrive channel.

Any NOS tube will sound better than the original one IMO, although they don't always have more gain, the stock Chinese tubes have plenty.

Don't go by price either, some of the most expensive tubes aren't necessarily the best-sounding in all amps. (Or even in most of them, in some cases IMO.)

A couple of suggestions. Do not throw away the tube you replace.
You might have a nice old 12ax7 in there that may come in handy in the future.

Do not twist the tube when you pull it. Rock it back and forth slightly while pulling straight out.

Google KCANOSTUBES. Mike has a killer selection of reasonable stuff right now and he is a big help.
Shoot him an e-mail from his web site, he gets back pretty quick.
