    Hey all,
I need a good sounding metal pedal. No BOSS stuff or similar

I have a Carvin Bel Air 50w tube amp. I has the most increadible clean channel of any amp Ive heard and it does blues and classic rock very well.

It however, does not do metal. I'm defining metal by saying a pedal that is pretty veristle, 80's to Present metal sounds. (can already do the 60's and 70's thing)

This is what I'm looking at
    • Rocktron Metal planet
    • EH metal muff with top boost
    • rocktron zombie
I dont want to sound ultra thin or synthetic like the boss pedals I have tried.

So can you guys help me out with some advice hear?
    thanks
    Shawn

Zvex Box of Metal would be one possibility.

My thoughts: use the search. There's a plethora of info here....all just a search away. This topic is currently being debated in a few other threads.

Boss MT-2 with the Monti Allums Sustainiac mod. Stock the MT -2 sounds like :moon but with the mod it's a KILLER!! The BellAir can be a "little" stiff on the cleans and most drive pedals can sound harsh through it. The compression on the Sustainiac mod MT-2 softens it up. Don't knock this set up untill you try it it ROCKS!!

i use the ehx metal muff and im not sure it would give you as authentic of a sound as your looking for. with the gain anywhere below 3 oclock it will completely suck your tone and put you on BOSS pedal status. with the gain all the way up you can get some real chunky palm muted rhythms, but i have a feeling this pedal would be too electronic sounding for your tastes.

Ive tried enough metal pedals to tell ya...the BOSS MT-2 is pretty much the kinda sound you hear on a lotta records.....and it doesnt cost as much as a lotta others...Get the Keeley or the Analogman or the Monte Allums MT-2 and your hunt is over!!

Checkout the Landmine distortion. It also looks really cool. There are demo's on youtube and on their website.

Yeep, great pedal for a high-gain british sound :BEER

If there is a need for very versatile pedal: MI Audio Tube Zone.
It can do what CB do and so much more (i.e. recto modern tone). Great pedal. Love it :)

Friend of mine asked me that question this weekend. I recommended the Zvexx Box of Metal and the Guyatone Metal Monster. He liked the clips of the Guyatone better so that is what he is going with for thrash, power and doom metal.

not to hijack but how is that guyatone MM? from clips ive heard online it has a truly crushing distortion and a nice EQ, but requires a noise gate. true?

Thanks every one for the responses,

I will be getting the MI audio crunchbox. It seems to be a REALLY great pedal. I have not found one bad review of the pedal yet
